I really owe it to Amazon that I own this television. I put it on my wish list and intended to buy it... someday. I owned a 55" 1080i Mitsubishi CRT that weighed 450lbs. I surfed through Amazon one day and this "personal ad" popped up that said, "this television is on your wish list, when are you going to buy it?" I printed out the information on the television and went to our local "blue" store with the ad in my hand. I wanted to see it in person. They had it on display. I played with the remote. A salesman walked up and asked if I like it. "I love it," I told him, "I just can't afford your price. I wish you could match this one..." He looked at the paper in my hand. "I'll match it," he told me. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather. I bought the television the next week at the price Amazon quoted (nearly 0 off the retail price!). We donated the old television to an underprivileged family. They appreciated our old TV as they had a small 19 inch color CRT. We were happy for them. But I have to tell you, after we hooked up the smaller 47" the difference was striking from the start. Not only do old DVD's look better, but HD broadcasts, such as NBC (which looks the best) and CBS are extremely sharp. I'm an NFL fan and football games are incredible. The 240hz completely eliminates the "pixil" look during football games we saw on other televisions. The PS3 seems like a new system. Old games are sharper and clearer. The blue ray movies jump off the screen like 3D. Would I buy the TV through Amazon? Absolutely. However, as things worked out, it must have been kismet.

A Review of the GBC HeatSeal H212 Laminator

Do you need an affordable, easy-to-use laminator for home or office use? If so, you're reading the right review because the GBC HeatSeal H212 laminator could be just what you need. This is one of the company's newest products and it has a bounty of features that should make it appeal to anyone who needs to laminate his/her documents. This review will take a look at the HeatSeal H212's positives (and its few negatives) so you can make an informed choice when buying your laminator.

The GBC HeatSeal H212 is a jam-free pouch laminator that was engineered for both home and office use. This laminator has throat that measures 9.5 inches across. This allows you to laminate a lot of different items, from small ID cards to legal-sized documents. You can use both 3 and 5 mil pouches with this laminator, and although you technically don't need to use a carrier with the H212, it's recommended so you can prolong the life of your machine.

The HeatSeal H212 is easy to use. You can pretty much just take it out of the box and get laminating, even if you've never done it before. The unit has a variable temperature control that allows for cold lamination with GBC SelfSeal laminating pouches. This is a great feature to have in a laminator, because it means you can laminate fragile documents (such as old letters) without having to purchase an additional machine. The HeatSeal H212 has two heated rollers which produce beautiful, flawless lamination every time you use the machine, whether you're laminating pictures, work documents, or craft projects. Plus, the machine heats up quickly (within four minutes) and can laminate a 14-inch document in about a minute, which is pretty impressive for a machine at this price point. (The H212 retails for less than $200.00.) There's also an automatic shut-off which is not only a handy safety feature, it also helps you conserve power. The HeatSeal H212 only has a couple of flaws. The first concerns the document tray at the back of the machine. It's rather short, so it won't be particularly helpful if you're laminating larger items. If you need to laminate larger documents, a roll laminator would probably be a better choice because the H212 can only process documents up to 9.5" wide. (One option would be GBC's HeatSeal H312. It's essentially the same machine as the H212, but it can laminate documents that are 12 inches wide.) The same goes for rigidity since the H212 can only handle the thinner laminating pouches. It would have been nice if GBC had made the machine capable of processing 7 and 10 mil pouches, because then the machine would have been just about perfect.

Nonetheless, the GBC HeatSeal H212 is a great laminator that performs well and is available at an affordable price. The additional free trimmer is a nice bonus, as is the machine's cold lamination capability. If you need a machine for everyday laminating projects, the GBC HeatSeal H212 is definitely a laminator you should consider purchasing.

LCD (liquid crystal display) - LCD TVs are becoming the most popular technology. They have many advantages such as low power consumption, ability to display the highest resolutions (1080p), LCDs are flat, many are wall mountable. The disadvantage of an LCD is that their ability to show contrast is less than some other technologies like plasma. LCDs in the past were also slower to refresh (not so with the current models). These disadvantages are quickly disappearing. Today's LCD HDTVs have greatly improved on contrast and refresh speed. The latest LCD technology is 120hz. Most LCDs are silent with no moving parts or fans. LCD's are brighter than Plasma HDTVs and so are better suited in well lit rooms during the day than plasmas.

Plasma displays are very popular as well. They have higher contrast than LCDs (although that gap is closing), and can display HDTV with stunning clarity. Plasma sets also display fast action (sports, action movies) better. The disadvantages of plasma are that they take more electricity than LCDs, and can generate more heat. Many have built in fans. Plasma screens are susceptible to screen burn-in (new models compensate with various screen-saving methods). Heavier than LCDs.

Some HDTV's displays have a more limited viewing angle than others. They lose contrast and become hard to read at some viewing angles and they have more contrast and are easier to read at others. Generally the higher the viewing angle, the better. This is especially important when a group of people are watching an HDTV at the same time. Modern High Definition TVs have much better viewing angles, and it is not as big an issue as it was in the past.

You could count on at least 20 years for an LCD TV screen life, and a Good 10 years for the Plasma screen life.

When purchasing an HDTV you will see familiar top level brands such as Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, Pioneer, etc. Then you will see 2nd tier brands that sell at substantial discounts to the top brands. We recommend only top tier brands for several reasons. One is that many of these 2nd tier brands offer poor servicing should something go wrong. Some charge you the freight to either ship the TV to them or back after repair. One brand we saw offers no parts after the one year warranty is up, so in effect it is a throwaway TV. Higher end TVs have better video processors for upconverting and reducing digital noise. For these reasons we believe that top tier brands are the best way to go even though there is a higher initial cost.

The Flip MinoHD camcorder has a built in software driver so that you do not need to pre-install any software on the computer before you plug it in. I own a 46" Samsung previously rated #1 by a Consumer organization. This 47" LG is far superior on several levels.

Pros: Unbelievable picture quality, especially on movie channels.
Tweaker's delight. Numerous user customizable settings for both picture and audio.
Television is thin and very sharp looking.
Cost is several hundred dollars lower than comparable heavily advertized models.
Remote is well laid out and easy to use.
240hz user-controllable scan rate on a TV at this price.
4 HDMI 1.3 inputs.

Cons: Stand must be installed by the user (I cut LG a little slack, it is only 8 screws and took 5 minutes).
User should tweak picture settings to get the best PQ. Once adjusted, the picture quality is incredible.

If picture quality is your primary concern, you will not be disappointed by the LG 47SL80. Also, Amazon consistently had the best price for the TV.

As a side note, Pilot air folks called and provided a local number to setup delivery. Delivery was on-time and the delivery staff were very courteous. For me this was a good experience overall. I highly recommend both Amazon and this LG TV.

I just purchased this television the other day, on sale at Fry's for 5. This is a really great deal, in my opinion. NetFlix works amazingly; the TV does show the limits of the quality of some of the Netflix videos. Some of the Netflix content is HD.....and it looks great.

I want to address that fact that the reviewer stated that you can't stream video over your network. Maybe at the time of the review, you could not, but I can tell you it does......without a doubt. Mpeg, AVI, Divx, and Mkv all worked when I streamed them from my Network attached storage device. It is an amazing feature considering I download most of shows that I watch.

The Vudu feature is very nice as well, basically a pay per view streaming HD service. I have not had a chance to watch a movie through the service yet. I have watched many of their trailers, the quality is amazing.

Not crazy about the remote.....
