The versatility in the use of materials for its production has led us to produce many low price photoresistors. Interestingly, their versatility and the way they are used as passive devices in various technological components gave them a series of alternative names. Presently, these photoresistors are also called as photocells, photoconductors, photoconductive cells, photo resistors etc.

How a Photoresistor is Made?

While making a photoresistor, a layer of an active semiconductor is spread on insulated substrates. As this resistor needs a better conductivity, the semiconductors used while its making are doped. A mild doping is enough to make a semiconductor with a better conductivity.

After then, some contacts are fixed on these substrates. To get the maximum of these photoresistors, the exposed area, between the contacts, on the substrates are never kept straight and even. I purchased this model after extensive research and viewing comparible models at my local Buy More (or was it Best Buy?). This particular model was side by side with a 42" plasma and I could not tell the differance. Initially I was leaning towards Plasma because of it's reputation of less motion blur and better viewing angle, but I have to say that that reputation is outdated. I saw no motion blur in fast action sequences and the picture quality did not change until I was almost direct beside it.

What made me choose the LCD was the much lower power consumption of the LCDs (2 cents per killowatt hour vs. 9 cents for for the Plasma) and the brightness since it will used in a room with south-facing windows.

Whan I used it during a bright afternoon, it was even easier to view than the old 32" CRT TV. The LCD screen seems more non-reflective than the old glass CRT screen.

Sound-wise it is excellent. I'm an old-school audiophile who enjoys good sound, and this sounds great with just a smidgen of bass increase in the settings. Since the sound is reflecting from the table-top and the wall behind it, the sound pacement can really matter. If for instance you wall-mount this model, the sound quality may be less pleasing and may require auxiliary speakers - that's probably true for for ANY flat screen TV.

All in all I'm extremely pleased.

I purchased this product on Black Friday as an early Christmas gift. It's my first flat panel HD TV. I bought it on the specs, the Philips name and the price.

Set up was a snap. It took longer to get it out of the box than to get it operational. The remote is intuitive. The on screen menus are simple and straightforward.

For me coming from a traditional TV, the picture is outstanding. Colors are rich and lush. The blacks are black. The detail is amazing. You can see the pores on news anchors' skin. The screen is viewable from multiple angles.

Speakers are hidden within the unit's case. Sound quality is excellent.

Setting up other devices (DVD player, game console) was simple. It has more connectors than I expect I'll need (at least for now).

This unit provides a lot of value.

I received this from amazon's warehouse; whoever returned it clearly didn't tweak (or know how to tweak) the picture sets for optimum performance. After playing around with all the pix options - and there are a lot of choices - I ended up with video that was incredible....an amazing improvement on my 3yr old sharp (which I had thought was really great.) The picture is sharp, the colors natural, the depth and the blacks superb. For folks who haven't a clue how to set up the picture, there are plenty of sites like sound&vision or PC world or pc mag who list their particular preferences.
The gents who delivered were awesome....set it up and made sure it worked. Applause for amazon's service here.

Have no comment on audio since I use my own sound system.

This is my first non tube TV. Thus far I am completely satisfied - even though the first one I received had a defective hard drive. LG sent me to a local service provider for repair that no longer services LG.... The vendor (Vann's) was very helpful and handled the return very well. I've only had it 2 weeks and am still sorting thru the features.

Specifically the goods:
The integral DVR and free TV Guide are a combination every high end TV should have. The DVR is always recording what you are watching (unless already recording another channel). DVR playback quality is great - maintaining HD quality etc.

The speakers are extremely good quality - better than I've heard from similar models. I was very surprised. This is not hooked to a home theater - so the great quality is truly appreciated.

The QAM tuner allows some HD channels in my area to be received from normal basic cable service. Video quality is great. Plenty of fun features.

The only drawbacks:
The remote is fairly straightforward, but it's difficult to sort thru the buttons in the dark. Because of all the functionality there are several buttons to sort thru. Lighted buttons would be helpful.

DVR skip forward is not always the same amount of time - sometimes 2 minutes per press, and sometimes 4. This may have something to do with the recording quality chosen.

When the DVR begins recording a show, the TV is tuned to the channel regardless of what you are watching. It is a minor annoyance to retune (or switch back to watching a recorded show).

Can only watch (or record) one digital channel (including HD) at one time. This is understandable as there is only one digital tuner. I believe there may be 2 analog tuners however - which is helpful for PIP etc.
